Many animals share the park: mule deer, bobcat,
coyote, grey fox, brush rabbit, and even the
occasional mountain lion and black bear.
Red-tailed hawk and turkey vulture can be seen
circling overhead. The park is also the home of
the California thrasher, mountain quail, scrub
jay, rufous-sided towhee and many other birds.
Park visitors will see a wide variety of plants
in the park, including many trees: valley oaks,
coast live oaks, California black walnuts, and
chaparral flowering ash. Cottonwoods, sycamore
and mule fat line the stream channel. Spring is
an excellent time to see wildflowers: purple
sage, California everlasting, virgin's bower,
wild rose, chocolate lily (on Towsley View loop
trail), lupine, blue larkspur, yellow mariposa
lily, and more! Watch for poison oak--red in
fall, lush green growth in the spring and
summer--all parts, roots and dormant branches
included, are toxic. |
