Directions & Rules

Pico Canyon, located in the northern portion of the Santa Clarita Woodlands Park, is home to a rich and active oil history. Tucked at the base of the canyon's chaparral-dominated slopes is Mentryville, the oil boom town that grew from the fever and prosperity erupting over this black gold. Explore the town's remaining historic buildings. Walk back into the canyon, resting beneath valley and coast live oaks and imagine the activities of a bygone era through historic photographs. Or, take a good hike up the park road into Pico's back canyon, where views of Santa Clarita and beyond promise to impress.
